Aimed towards those who are seeking a career in the domestic electrical industry.

This course is designed to underpin your knowledge of the various areas within the electrical trade. Combined with the 18th Edition you will have gained the eligibility to register for a competent person scheme as a domestic electrical installer via a wide choice of bodies such as the NICEIC, ECA or NAPIT.

This course will cover both lighting and power circuits, through to fault protection & safe isolation procedures. You will create an understanding for the importance of theory, which will also build your knowledge of the Part ‘P’ building regulations to support your installations as well as the issuing of certificates for domestic work you have carried out. Theory of cable sizing, Ohms law and circuit design will be accompanied by hands on workshop training throughout this 5-day course. There is a 40 multiple choice exam on the final day of training. We will guide each learner individually as they need, to ensure they feel competent to sit this exam.

It is beneficial, not essential to have some basic knowledge of electrical work before enrolling onto this course. We understand everyone has different styles and speeds of learning, so we offer an additional DEI fundamentals course for those who want a little extra time.

  • Basic electrical theory from the ground up such as ohms law and power law
  • Calculating voltage drop expectations so things still work after your work
  • Calculating cable sizes so you don’t have any fires, nuisance tripping etc.
  • Different types of earthing arrangements
  • Supply details explaining the electrical incoming side
  • Practical one way light installation for single rooms
  • Practical two way light installation for stairs or larger rooms with two openings
  • Intermediate lighting for small commercial buildings or larger properties
  • Radial circuits such as sockets installed in utility rooms or kitchens
  • Ring main circuits such as house wiring to sockets upstairs and downstairs
  • Final circuit wiring such as cookers, showers and other single pieces of equipment
  • Basics of certificate completion – More in-depth in the fundamentals
  • High risk areas such as bathrooms, saunas & outside to name a few
  • Multifunction tester training
  • Cable stripping techniques and termination of cables safely.
  • Safe isolation so that electric shock is prevented to anyone.
  • Three phase power
  • Part P of the building regulations
  • Separated extra low voltage circuits or SELV and PELV with FELV.
